RB Brian Westbrook To Make Decision Soon Regarding His Future
Former Philadelphia Eagles RB, Brian Westbrook, is expecting to make a decision soon on his playing future.
According to Jason La Confora (NFL Network), the free agent runner is expected to make a decision on if he will ultimately play this upcoming and if so, which team he will suit up.
Westbrook is expected to pick between the Denver Broncos, St. Louis Rams or Washington Redskins.
The Washington Redskins definitely present the best opportunity to win now, with Westbrook on the downside of his career. It also doesn’t hurt that his former teammate in Philadelphia, QB Donovan McNabb, is now playing in D.C.
Although new Head Coach Mike Shanahan is a master of the running game and likes to use a ton of different backs, it seems a bit crowded in the Redskins backfield. Washington signed free agent RBs Larry Johnson and Willie Parker to go with incumbent starter Clinton Portis, whom Shanahan is familiar with from his time with the Denver Broncos.
With his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, he would be a nice fit in the Denver Broncos’ offensive scheme. But remember, Josh McDaniels used a first round selection on RB Knowshon Moreno in last year’s draft, whom they have high hopes for.
Although St. Louis is by far and away the worst team of the list, and quite possibly the worst in the NFL, it presents Westbrook the best opportunity for playing time. St. Louis is desperate for a compliment to All-Pro Steven Jackson and even his health has been an issue throughout his career, so it would definitely give Westbrook his best chance of a lot of playing time.
When it is all said and done, I think he winds up in Washington however, and someone will be out there way out I would assume.
